Michael Young

Born in Sunderland in the north east of England in 1966, Michael Young graduated from Kingston University in 1992 and founded his studio the following year, soon creating work for the Conran store and the Centre Pompidou. After nearly a decade in the UK and Iceland he set up a studio in Hong Kong in 2006, exploring the possibilities of Asian technology.

His Lancaster Chair for Emeco, from 2010, pairs a die-cast seat and back of 80 percent recycled aluminium with a frame of locally sourced, sustainably harvested ash.
