It’s not an easy task to design a new sofa, particularly something with a new typology. The Bend Sofa designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia places emphasis on sculptural form and textural detailing. Launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2010, Bend was developed from a study using 3-D models and digital research by Urquiola, along with the research and development team at B&B Italia. The sofa shifts and arcs, filling spaces with an unconventional approach. In line with Urquiola’s reputation for strong form and material playfulness, Bend is detailed with contrasting fabric seams that add texture and colour. A chiseled backrest and a series of curved modules including seats, an ottoman and corner elements that wrap around each end, create one of the most interesting sofas in the B&B Italia collection.

B&B Italia
A leading company in the field of contemporary furnishings since 1966 B&B Italia’s products represent a collection that reflects the achievements and history of Italian design: an eventful process through which Italian taste, imaginativeness, creativity, and expertise have become world-famous. The company works with the world's best designers, including Antonio Citterio, Mario Bellini, Uwe Fischer, Gaetano Pesce and Patricia Urquiola, interpreting contemporary culture and creating products that show sensitivity to trends and foreshadow or reaffirm them.
Patricia Urquiola
Born in Spain, Patricia Urquiola now lives and works in Milan. In 2016 she became the Creative Director of Cassina. She graduated in architecture in 1989 having done a thesis with Achille Castiglioni. Between 1990 and 1996 she worked for the New Product Development office of De Padova and with Vico Magistretti signed the products: Flower, Loom sofa, Chaise and Chaise Longue.
In 1996 she became head of the Lissoni Associati design group, working for Alessi, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina, Kartell, and others, and in 2001 she launched Studio Patricia Urquiola in Milan and today works in between architecture, interiors and furniture for groups including B&B Italia, Kartell, Foscarini and Moroso.
