Kristian Vedel

Kristian Vedel (1923-2003) studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen and under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He helped shape Danish modernism with furniture, tableware and children’s products, among them a pioneering bent plywood child’s chair, and in 1968 moved to Kenya to found the industrial design programme at the University of Nairobi.

His Bird of 1959 is made by hand in natural or smoked oak by Architectmade, its head tilting in many directions to give each bird its own mood.
