Corker No. 1 Marble Stool
The silhouette of a champagne cork served as inspiration for Herzog & de Meuron’s design of the Corker furniture, which can be used as a stool or side table. The extension of the popular product family with a new version made of marble emphasises the monolithic character of the design even more: the object made of coloured natural stone looks like a sculpture in the room. Jacques Herzog says: “You could almost see the Corker as a Pop Art object because it emerged directly and without any significant reshaping from enlarging an object that exists in our everyday culture.” This furniture made of polished or matt marble is attractive not only as an aesthetic highlight but also a haptic one: the tactile qualities of natural stone invite you to touch the material - the cool, smooth surface forms a contrast to the warm, velvety cork of the original designs.
Corker originated at the London Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012. The design of the temporary summer pavilion was a joint project by the architectural office Herzog & de Meuron and Chinese artist, designer and architect Ai Weiwei. The cork design object was part of the overall concept.

ClassiCon
ClassiCon offer modern classics that are collector’s items—not only the masterpieces of yesterday, but of tomorrow as well. ClassiCon’s collection aims to produce individual pieces of great originality and formal perfection. Displaying the kind of value that lasts, ClassiCon collection pieces are destined to become coveted investments for future generations. ClassiCon has from its inception aspired not only to offer pieces by established figures such as Eileen Gray and Eckart Muthesius, but also to foster contemporary design and to present selected examples in its program. Naturally, the models chosen must display the kind of quality and advanced form that earns them the designation “classic”. That’s why ClassiCon is always open to new design ideas.
Herzog & de Meuron
Herzog & de Meuron was founded in Basel in 1978 by the architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron. Its projects range from private homes to urban planning and include Tate Modern in London, M+ in Hong Kong, the Allianz Arena in Munich and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and its many awards include the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
For ClassiCon the office designed the Volkshaus range, first shown in 2024: an oak lounge chair and stool with seats and backrests of hardwearing cord and a solid oak side table, their frames inspired by Japanese wooden joints.
