Arflex

In 1947, a group of technicians based in Pirelli in Italy began experimenting with new materials and technologies in the creation of cutting-edge, modern furniture. This was the beginning of the Arflex brand, established on the meeting of technology and aesthetic sensibilities, and driven by a high level of research and experimentation. Officially presented to the public in 1951, Arflex quickly gained recognition for their manufacturing philosophy.

Mario Marenco

Mario Marenco (1933-2019) was born in Foggia and graduated in architecture in Naples in 1957, followed by research grants in Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened his own architecture and design studio in Rome, and he went on to design for Arflex, Artemide and B&B Italia, as well as exhibition stands for Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo.

His Marenco sofa for Arflex dates from 1970 and remains an icon of Italian design. The same year he found fame as a comedian, co-writing and performing the radio show Alto gradimento.
