Palma is the latest collaboration between Graya and Space Atelier working together to create an interior that’s a ‘blend of sculptural modernism with warm, coastal-inspired detailing.’ The relationship that began with Graya’s Maison residences in New Farm more than five years ago, is now grounded in a design philosophy that focuses on furniture that’s elegant and relaxed, and textures, colours and finishes to create rhythm in response to the architecture.
Space Atelier's new interiors for Palma by Graya
Located in the Brisbane suburb of Ascot overlooking leafy canopies and, on a clear day, views to Moreton Bay, Palma’s interiors are pared back to match its subtropical location. Interiors breezily flow between the levels, double height spaces are washed in natural light, details include crafted off-form concrete and a sweeping sculptural staircase, and relaxed lounge areas seamlessly connect with the outside.
Ask Graya director Andrew Gray about the collaboration with Space and he enthuses about the role interiors play in all of their developments. ‘Interiors are critically important for us. Space is very well known for high-end residential, so they are a natural fit, and the Space Atelier team makes it an easy process because they have such a good eye.’ Working closely with the Graya design team on the Palma interiors, Space Atelier developed furniture plans for each of the levels featuring key designs by Italian brands Baxter, B&B Italia and Edra, detailed materials specifications across each collection, and delivery, installation and styling that brought it all together.

‘We approach each interior thinking about how to bring it to life,’ explains David Hartikainen who heads up the design team at Space Atelier. ‘We always consider every option and let our clients guide the design process. How do they like to live, do they entertain a lot, how important are the quieter zones for winding down and relaxing, and what collections, colours, materials and textures feel right. It’s what we enjoy about working with our clients and I think that’s why they like working with us.’
Space Atelier’s collaboration on Graya’s newest project, Palma, says everything about the close relationships they have developed. ’We're very happy with how Palma has come together,’ adds Gray, 'we love specifying the Space collection in our projects because it's beautiful and the market loves it, and it makes such a difference when you furnish properties well.’
