It’s not an easy task to design a new sofa, particularly something with a new typology. The Bend Sofa designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia places emphasis on sculptural form and textural detailing. Launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2010, Bend was developed from a study using 3-D models and digital research by Urquiola, along with the research and development team at B&B Italia. The sofa shifts and arcs, filling spaces with an unconventional approach. In line with Urquiola’s reputation for strong form and material playfulness, Bend is detailed with contrasting fabric seams that add texture and colour. A chiseled backrest and a series of curved modules including seats, an ottoman and corner elements that wrap around each end, create one of the most interesting sofas in the B&B Italia collection.
