Gustave is a portable, self-powered luminaire, specially designed for tabletop lighting applications and other related uses as supplementary lighting. Gustaves compact size encloses a perfect mix of the most innovative optical and light technology and a disruptive engineering, developed in the service of a discretionary purpose of Flos for this project: to create the first portable luminaire on the market with circular design awareness, ecological and honestly conceived against obsolescence.

The Designer

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in Lokeren, Belgium, in 1962, and undertook a degree in Architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint Lucas, Ghent. Afterwards Van Duysen worked in Milan collaborating with Aldo Cibic, after which, he worked with Jean De Meulder in Antwerp, Belgium.

In 1990, Vincent Van Duysen Architects was established and today has grown into a team of more than twenty collaborators. Projects range from product design for numerous international brands, over commercial to bigger scale architectural projects, with a focus on high-end residences. During his career, Vincent Van Duysen has received multiple awards among which recently the ‘Flemish Culture Prize for Design’ and ‘Belgian Designer of The Year’. In 2018 Vincent Van Duysen was appointed part of the creative lead for the product development of Sahco for Kvadrat.
