With its versatile personality, this multifaceted design by storagemilano expresses an interdependence of design, architecture and art that draws inspiration from both the typical post-modernist styles and the graphic playfulness of the 1980s while creating an irregular development of perspective accentuated by the intense colour scheme. The reference to architecture is also reflected in the name NYNY as New York, New York. The play of volumes of NYNY UNIT is, in fact, a tribute to the New Museum of Contemporary Art in Nolita, whose building expresses the archetypal forms of the Babylonian ziggurat. With a totemic spirit, NYNY UNIT is defined in the asymmetrical superimposition of geometric volumes suspended with the support of the wall-mounted metal structure. Each volume corresponds to a specific function: below, two drawers, one high and one low; above, two compartments with doors; the lower one can also be used as a desk.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0343/0062/5036/products/nyny-unit-gebruder-thonet-vienna.jpg?v=1784567474
gebruder-thonet-vienna-ottow-headboard
OttoW Headboard

Bringing their highly architectural approach to the world of furniture for the first time, Storagemilano – the architecture and design studio founded by Barbara Ghidoni, Marco Donati and Michele Pasini – has created the stunning OTTOW headboard, featuring a bent beech-wood structure with square cross-sections, in two finishes: lacquered black or natural stained. An intriguing contemporary take on a classic decorative style, OTTOW creates a wood-panelling effect on the wall through a combination of different materials. The side inserts in woven cane frame the central section in perforated wood – also available in the upholstered version – while the black lacquered version comes with brass details and the natural stained version gets copper. The name is an evocative one: the choice of square cross-sections and the panel of perforated wood reveal that OTTOW is a tribute to Otto Wagner and his iconic 1906 Postsparkasse collection, which remains in the GTV catalogue to this day.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0343/0062/5036/products/ottow-headboard-gebruder-thonet-vienna.jpg?v=1784567475
