Hannes Wettstein

Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein was a structural engineering draughtsman before training himself in design and architecture. Interested in technology as well as the history of art and architecture, Wettstein became one of Switzerland's most innovative and influential designers known for his ability to develop ideas into the simplest of solutions - often described as pure, unspectacular, functional design that outlasts time. He founded Studio Hannes Wettstein in 1991 which produces everything from furniture and lighting, to bicycles and watches. Hannes Wettstein died in 2008, but the studio and work lives on through the direction of architects Stephan Hurlemann and Britta Harold and designer Simon Husslein
