While we are all staying home to protect ourselves and those around us, we are reminded of the new meaning of home. To capture that spirit, Italian lighting firm Foscarini has released ‘Vite (Lives)’, a series of films that share personal insights of real life at home to capture a pertinent moment in time.

The Vite (Lives) project reflects the desire to make people the central focus, to talk about light not starting with the lamp but with those who live with it inside their own intimate space: the home.” – Foscarini
As we all stay home more to protect ourselves and our community we are reminded of the true meaning of home – safety, family and freedom. Home is a place that allows us to be ourselves without feeling judgement from the outside world. But as we connect via video links with friends, and now colleagues, our bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens have come into stark focus. Life it seems wasn’t as perfect and stylised as we all believed.
It was the American decor editor Karen Fisher at Cosmopolitan magazine who declared, “Home decorating is the most personal path to self expression next to making love”. She believed the home wasn't just about the right rug, or designer chair, but about self-expression, fantasy and identity.
Filmed by Gianluca Vassallo and narrated by the writer Flavio Soriga, the Vite (Lives) series take us from Copenhagen to Naples, Shanghai and Venice, and inside 17 homes that are not just beautiful and styled within an inch of their lives, but tell the stories of real lives #IRL. Though images, videos and words, each film explores the meaning of the home and its relationship with people, its architecture, the city and the landscape, and puts real people at the centre of the story.
